From its humble beginnings in 1830, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has grown to a world-wide population of over 12 million, with more than 6 million residing in the United States, and almost one million residing in California.

The rapid growth and expanding influence of the Church have awakened a strong interest within the academic community and the world at large to understand its roots, its history, its doctrine, and its culture. That desire to understand, as well as the Church’s expanding status as a global religion, has encouraged a rigorous academic focus on the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Students who will study Mormonism at Claremont will deepen the understanding of this uniquely American religion, and will greatly enrich the institution where they will eventually teach or otherwise work.
